Sometimes, the unconventional colors you’re craving won’t be at the makeup counter. (Mustard yellow, anyone?) “For extremely vibrant shades, I like using richly pigmented stage makeup. Kryolan has a wonderful collection of 16 iridescent colors in a mini-palette,” says Jeung. “You’ll get tons of variety and because they’re so potent, they last forever.”

Even pastel hues, like this sea foam shade, can look intense when applied with gusto. “Give your lids a sheer wash of cream shadow and then top it with a matching powder for extra intense color,” says Jeung.

Lea Michele 2
HAIR HOW-TO
“This messy, curly look is something we haven’t seen on Lea before,” says Townsend. “I wanted it a little damp and imperfect, like she’d really been dancing.” He worked a dollop of Dove Damage Therapy Curl & Sculpt Defining Mousse into damp strands and blew them out with a roundbrush. He grabbed three-inch sections and wrapped them around a 1-½ inch curling iron. “Be sure you go through the entire head, although the spirals can be kind of random,” he says. To finish, Townsend mixed a blend of Dove Frizz Control Taming Cream and sandbox sand in the palm of his hand and raked it through her hair. (Yes, you read correctly.) “I’ve been using this trick since before all the great beach sprays came out. Sandbox sand is super, super fine. This paste thickens the hair and clumps it together without making it crunchy,” he says.
