Trend Report: Smoky Cat Eye

October 14, 2010 |  by

Charcoal eyes are yet again the trend to try this winter—only this season makeup artists are adding a sultry spin to this look: a winged, rather than rounded, finish to the eye. “This instantly adds drama to your gaze—plus, the elongated liner pulls the eye up and back, exaggerating its existing shape,” says Tarte Cosmetics’ LA-based celebrity makeup artist, Tracy Davis.

To recreate this killer cat eye:

Precisely line your eyes (we love ), making sure the liner is at its thickest toward the outer corners; diffuse the harsh edges with a makeup sponge or smudger. NOTE: you can choose to line your lower lashline, as well, for more intensity.

Then, with a fluffy eye shadow brush, blend a dark-hued shadow (black, eggplant—pick your poison) from your lashline up to the crease of your eye.

“Finally, dust a neutral, flesh-toned highlighting shadow under your brow bone to soften the look a bit, and follow with a few swipes of ,” adds Davis.
