Angel’s Makeup Collagen Intensive Kit “I live and die for this product. The kit comes with collagen ampoules, an activator, fancy q-tips and little pads. I leave them under my eyes for about a half hour before photo shoots or when I’ve just gotten off a plane. They eliminate sagginess and just bring you to life.”
Beauté Weightless Lip Crème In Masochist “My makeup artist Beau Nelson introduced me to this shade, which I think they made originally for Dita Von Teese. A great red lipstick is like a Jedi mind trick. Say you have a big zit—no one will notice if they’re just staring at your gorgeous red lips.”
“When I fly, this changes my skin. I mist constantly on a plane and this just quenches and hydrates—I think dewy skin is really beautiful.”
Almay Oil-Free Makeup Remover Towelettes “Here’s what I love about them: They’re cheap and cheerful. And they really get the makeup off your skin without leaving residue on your face. I even took them to Burning Man with me!”
“I like to juice because I do cleanses every so often. It’s not cheap—but it’s really easy to use and then stick in your dishwasher. I crave green juices now.”
“If you get a good night’s sleep, you’re ahead of the game. I can’t sleep without a sound machine. I hear it and I feel like a baby. It’s not birds chirping or anything weird. It’s like being inside the womb.”

Cate Blanchett: Red Carpet Look #3

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I LOVE a side chignon! I think it is the perfect hair style for when you want your hair up but you don’t want a bun. This is the day I fell in love with the style, and what a day it was! We woke up super early in NYC and got Cate ready for The Early Show and then we were off to Live with Regis and Kelly. Once we finished there, we were off to the airport to fly to LA (This amazing Versace dress was such an incredible piece of art, it had it’s own seat on the plane!) When we landed, we drove straight to the studio for Cate’s appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and her 3rd hairdo of the day. As soon as she walked off the stage she ran back to her dressing room where we had 10 MINUTES to get her into the Versace dress and change her hair and makeup for the red carpet premiere of The Good German. With such limited time (and space!) we all had to work together so I stood on the sofa while the makeup artist stood in front of Cate and her stylist somehow undressed her and got her into that dress with all of this craziness going on, it was like a game of Beauty Twister with arms and legs going in every direction.

I had given Cate a beach-y wave before The Tonight Show, so I quickly brushed out the waves and gathered her hair behind her right ear and loosely braided it and wrapped an elastic 2 inches from the bottom, then I looped the end of the braid back up to the base and secured by running bobby pins thru the elastic and pinning at the base. I let a few of her layers fall out of the braid to give the chignon movement and softness. I honestly could not believe I was able to get her hair ready in just a few minutes!

Leslie Bibb has a creative way of dealing with the paparazzi. Rather than flicking them off or tipping them off, or any of the above, the actress has a different strategy: Reasoning with them. “I was in Toronto with Sam [Rockwell]. I’m getting coffee and I see someone picking up a camera. I go, “Please, I look like the bottom of a shoe. Can we not do this?’” (The cameraman politely obliged—not because he agreed, but because he was charmed.) See, Bibb has a funny relationship with the camera’s lens. Ever since winning a modeling contest when she was 16, everyone wanted her in front of it. And she wanted to be there—kind of. “I’m not one of those people who loves looking at pictures of myself. When I’m on a shoot, just tell me what you want. I take direction well, but I don’t want to see the photos,” she says. Bibb is much more interested in playing dress up than in looking good, especially when it comes to hair and makeup. “A hairstylist on set once told me I’d look great with short hair. ‘Cut it,’ I said.” So he did. “Short hair made my hips look bigger. Otherwise, I loved it,” she says plainly. Throughout her career, Bibb has tried countless lengths, cuts and colors, and she loves playing with new makeup. Currently she’s considering going bright red…or raven black. And she’s bringing red lipstick everywhere. “I like to change my look. I find it boring when someone always looks the same,” she says. And when you think about it, her logic makes good sense. While a picture lasts forever—a haircut will always grow out.

HAIR HOW-TO

“Leslie really does have this quintessential, all-American beauty to her,” said Townsend. “ I really wanted to give her a classic hairstyle that would show that off.” He worked a dab of volumizing foam into damp hair to give her strands a soft foundation before blowing it dry. Then, rather than wrapping sections around an iron like we’re all used to, Townsend clipped the ends and rolled upwards, pinning the spool of hair against the head to set. He worked his way through the hair, creating eight sections and allowed them to cool for ten minutes. To finish, he removed the pins and brushed through the curls with a natural bristle brush. “You can’t pin this look to any specific era—and that’s exactly how I wanted it,” he said.

MAKEUP MOMENT

One glance at these pictures and it’s pretty clear what makeup artist Kate Lee focused on: Creating a downright flawless crimson pout. (Bibb couldn’t have been happier!) Oddly enough, though, Lee’s process doesn’t begin by breaking out the lipstick tube. “Start by lining the mouth in a shade that matches the natural lip color exactly,” she says. “Red lipstick can be pretty unforgiving. This way, you’ll have a template and an idea of where the pigment is going before you begin.” Paint on your favorite shade with a soft lip brush. “You shouldn’t be going for a hard lip line—it needs to be perfectly applied and beautifully blended,” advises Lee. As for selecting that One Perfect Shade, Lee says there’s no magic formula—except for trying it on, of course: “Red lipstick is about going bold and trying what you’re drawn too—and the back of the hand is no substitute for your actual lips!”

This morning I saw these images from a shoot I did of Kim Kardashian for London Sunday Times with photographer Terry Richardson and I LOVE them!

I had no idea what working with Kim would be like and I was actually nervous, but let me tell you, I fell in love with her within 60 seconds! Obviously she is drop-dead gorgeous and she was so incredible to work with; she is so smart and has such a great sense of humor and I love her style, plus I thought I had died and gone to hair heaven when she took out her bun and those locks fell all the way down her back! I did my usual trick of blow drying her hair with a medium round brush and then setting the hair in barrel curls with a 1 1/2 inch curling iron. I wish I could play with that mane of hair everyday!

Halle Berry: Red Carpet Look #4

After too long of a break from my blog, I am back to continue the countdown of my favorite red carpet looks I have created. Number 4 is the evening I worked with Halle Berry when she hosted the 40th NAACP Awards and it was such an INCREDIBLE night! During the event, Halle had 5 dress changes so I wanted to change her hair with each dress and Halle was totally up for it.

We started with her hair down and wavy, then for the next dress we kept the hair down and I gave her roots some backcombing to give the hair lots of volume and I brushed out the waves for even more volume! Next, I set her hair with a curling iron and pulled one side back to create an Old Hollywood Glamour look. For our next dress, I pulled her hair into a side chignon (pretty much my favorite thing to do!) behind her ear and secured with bobby pins. For the last look of the night, I took all the pins out of her hair and set her hair back into the full waves. I LOVE to make quick changes to the hair and this was about as much fun as a hair stylist can have in one night!

Emma Stone

With Emma Stone’s rocker-chic style, smoked out gaze, and laid-back locks, it’s no wonder she stole the scene at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards. To help this stunning starlet get red carpet-ready, Emma turned to mane man, Mark Townsend, and makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin. Here’s the skinny on how to get her look—straight from the pros who created it:

“I wanted Emma to look young, cool, and modern—and this awards show was the perfect time to play up a rock and roll edge,” says Townsend. To give her strands a textured, sexy feel, Townsend sprayed all over her damp hair, then used a blow dryer—paired with a —to give it lots of volume and movement. To finish the look, he added separation and texture to her hair “by taking one drop of in my hands, warming it in my palms, and raking it through her strands.”

Goodwin then took the reins and created a strong, smoky eye using her current obsession for fall: Khaki green eyeshadow. “I used a liquid metallic version called Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Torrent to cover her eye lid from the lashline to the crease—the golden green hue added an element of fun and sophistication to an ordinary smoky eye.” Then, Goodwin lined her eyes [inner and outer corners] with , and topped them off by curling and coating her lashes with two coats of black mascara. The finishing touch? She swiped Stone’s lips with a pink matte lip color to complement her deeply colored gaze.
