The Morning After
Universal hair truth #101: Hot rollers, hairspray and blow dryers don’t hold a candle to the styling effects of a rowdy night out. Why? Because second day hair is damn sexy—it’s bumped-up, lived-in and impossibly seductive. There’s just something about the mix of dining, dancing and whatever comes next that does wonders for the soul—not to mention the hair. “As a stylist, I can’t tell you how many of my clients come in requesting second day hair,” says Townsend. “They mean tons of volume, broken up waves and even a little frizz.” As for pulling it off yourself, Townsend swears it’s possible: “It’s one look that’s hard to get wrong. The more character the hair has, the better.” What follows is his recipe for bed head as seen on actress Sasha Alexander, star of TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles, which premieres this month. But don’t worry—if you can’t master their version, the real thing is always just a night away.
