Someone asked me recently if I had any favorites from all the hairstyles I have created for red carpet events, and my answer is yes I do! So I’m going to spend some time going through years of hair-do’s and photos and find my 10 favorites and share them on my blog.

It’s so appropriate to start with Ms. January Jones since she is this month’s cover girl of MARKTbeauty.com and the style I created for the 2008 Emmy Awards. This was her first time at The Emmy’s as one of the leading ladies on Mad Men so make up artist Rachel Goodwin and I really wanted to make a statement so I called my friends at Kwiat and asked if I could borrow a few strands of diamonds to use as a headband on January and thankfully they said yes.

I put mousse in her hair and blow dried with a round brush, then used R Session Tools Nula Waver to create really cool, uneven curls in the hair and then gathered the hair into a messy french twist. Then the real fun began and I wrapped 3 strands of diamonds around Jan’s head creating a “headband” and weaved the remaining diamonds into the french twist. I was a little nervous (okay, A LOT nervous) to be working with such incredibly beautiful and incredibly expensive materials like real diamonds so I probably used about 300 hairpins and bobby pins to keep those suckers on January’s head! Usually I will sew jewelry into the hair with tapestry needles (no sharp point) and thread but I didn’t this time because I didn’t want it to be seen.

I got so many calls and emails after asking if I could do this style for people’s weddings!
