In my quest to pick my 10 favorite red carpet looks I’ve created I have been forced to make some very difficult decisions and I never would have guessed it would be so hard. However, it took me about 3 seconds to know that I had to include this look on Diane Kruger for the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards!
I LOVE a side chignon, it’s the perfect style when the hair should be back or up because the hair is still featured and can be seen from the front and over the shoulder, which is something I think about all the time for red carpet events.
When I arrived at her house she had just finished doing her OWN makeup and it was stunning! This dress was made for Diane by her friend Jason Wu and it really is a work of art. The dress was hanging close by where I was doing her hair and it was such a great source of inspiration, especially with the texture. We chatted for a few minutes and she showed me a picture from a recent fashion show of a hairstyle she liked and I thought with a few tweaks it would work perfectly. She has such incredible style and knows what works for her and is so cool and laid-back.
I put a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment in her hair (yes, I use this all the time!) and dried her hair with my fingers instead of a brush to keep her natural wave in her hair. Then I took 2 to 3 inch sections of hair and wrapped each section around a 1 inch curling iron (I wrap the hair around the outside of the barrel to create waves instead of opening the clamp on the hair which created curls.) Next, I gathered her hair behind her left ear and braided it loosely and then brought the bottom of the braid back up to the base and secured with bobby pins. I always spray the hair with a hairspray to keep it in place, but not so much that it looks like a helmet, I really like hair to look soft and touchable. I think Diane looked absolutely radiant!
